you are here. knee-deep in darkness.
these months grip the heart in the most cerebral way. as heavy as lead, a soundless dark, february enters in as a crushing wave, deep cerulean blue; frostbitten dreams set afloat amongst icebergs; despair hidden behind the cloak of a tarnished, cold dusk.
this night of winter sits heavy on my chest, whispering small, cruel sonnets disguised as prayers. smashing waves extinguish the small lantern lit on the starboard bow. and all that is left inside my heart is winter’s rasping, frigid breath.
but then, quite suddenly, the night is less.
the cold and the grey give way to the blossoms, and the tendrils of hope brush softly across my breast once more. the ocean settles. and the granite steps of cold melt into the dark, awakening soil.
and life spins around, and on, and anew. february you are here. –rebecca
